wine description

Syrah

Kai Schubert’s Syrah shimmers in the glass in a deep, dark purple color.

The nose: earthy and dark. Aromas ranging from pomegranate and red pepper to sour cherry, freshly ground pepper and nutmeg. Forest floor on a hot summer day, liquorice, black currants, cinnamon and leather.

On the palate, a spicy tannin and a lively acidity shine. Dark chocolate and fine spices flash through.

The wine grabs you from the first to the last sip. From pomegranate and red pepper to sour cherry, freshly ground pepper and nutmeg on the nose. These impressions are placed in the mouth together with spicy tannins and a lively acidity. Absolutely ready to drink now. If you like it and have patience, this has enormous storage potential. If Kai and Marion set themselves a standard, then it is very high. They only focus on the best that is available. So it is not surprising that the Syrah from Schubert is reminiscent of a wild variant of a great Hermitage.

Schubert Wines

They emigrated to New Zealand because it has the perfect conditions for cool climate Pinot Noir.

At the end of his school days in the Swabian town of Waiblingen, Kai Schubert already knew two things for sure: "Pinot Noir is my passion" and "I want to be a winemaker". No sooner said than done. After completing his viticulture studies in Geisenheim, the career changer began a worldwide search for the right place for a winery with the best conditions for Pinot Noir - and he chose New Zealand. In 1998, Kai emigrated to New Zealand with his partner Marion, who also became a winemaker. In Martinborough, in the very south of New Zealand's North Island, the two began planting vines on 14 hectares and realizing their dream of owning their own winery. In 2003, the first wines from Schubert Wines finally came onto the market. The success story begins...
