300 years of family tradition for wine
Top-quality wines for 300 years and ten generations: It is not without reason that the Malat family winery in the Krems Valley is one of the most renowned wineries in the country.
For 300 years and ten generations: a family lives for honest top-quality wine that you drink and not just taste.
Winemaking was already practiced in the Krems Valley during the Roman Empire - the oldest archaeological finds were even found near the Malat winery. Not quite as old but still a lot: the winemaking tradition in the Malat family. 300 years of winemaking expertise now culminates in the 10th generation: "The diversity of our range reflects the long tradition and potential of our region," says Michael Malat. The local wines from Furth, as an entry into the range, provide a lot of drinking pleasure. Not too complicated, but honest quality. In the top segment, Riesling and Grüner Veltliner come from the first vineyards "Silberbichl" and "Gottschelle". With these wines, you can discover the complex terroir of the Krems Valley directly in the glass. And not to be neglected are the sparkling wines from the Malat house. Father Gerald produced Austria's first sparkling wine in 1976. Malat Brut was born.
All organic or what?
There are many definitions of what NATURAL means in winemaking. Not all winemakers are certified to treat nature responsibly. So we check for ourselves on site whether a winemaker meets our standards for treating the natural product wine.
Honest winemaking.
Michi Malat deliberately avoids the irrigation of the vines that is common practice in many places: "It would change the character of the vineyards. Only when the vines are forced to root deeply in order to access water and minerals can the character of the site be expressed in a completely authentic way in the wine." Spontaneous fermentation for all site wines and the complete avoidance of botrytis grapes also ensure a precise, recognizable profile for all wines.
"I want to make wines that people enjoy drinking, not just tasting, and my personal signature should be recognizable in every wine: elegance, finesse and drinkability!"
