Helles Strohgelb, fast wie getrocknetes Zitronengras im Gegenlicht. Klar und leuchtend im Glas, ohne jede Trübung – ein Anblick, der Frische verspricht und den ersten Schluck schon visuell anschiebt. Kein dicker Glanz, sondern feine, agile Brillanz mit leicht grünlichem Reflex.
Die Nase ist sofort wach – Zitrone, Limettenschale, dazu ein Anflug von Maracuja und Mango. Tropisch, ja, aber nie kitschig. Etwas weißer Pfirsich und eine kühle, mandelartige Herbe im Hintergrund. Feinste Vanillenoten schieben sich dezent darunter – eher wie Holzstaub nach einem Sommertag in der Tischlerei.
Vibrant trifft es am besten: Der Wein springt auf die Zunge wie ein gekühlter Zitrus-Smoothie mit Grip. Knackige Säure, gutes Volumen, nichts Plattes. Die Textur ist wie nasser Schiefer – leicht rau, kühl, präzise. Im Abgang zeigen sich Mandel, feine Salzigkeit und ein Hauch Rauch – fast schon mineralisch-knisternd.
Ein Cuvée aus sieben autochthonen Rebsorten – keine große Bühne für Einzelne, sondern ein fein abgestimmter Chor. Das Douro-Tal liefert die Bühne: karge, steinige Böden, kühle Winde vom Atlantik und intensive Sonne. Der Wein wird nicht ausgebaut, er wird geformt – mit Feingefühl und Respekt vor der Herkunft.
Family history to drink: Grandfather Pôpa's lifelong dream was to have his own winery in the Douro Valley. His descendants are making this dream come true.
The young Pôpa worked in the vineyards of the Douro Valley in the oldest protected wine-growing region in the world. The proud man was passionately convinced of the quality and uniqueness of the wines. Pôpa dreamed of owning his own winery. It was only after his death that this dream came true and in 2003 his son Zeca bought the first 9 hectares of vineyards in the Douro Valley: these included renowned but also new locations. Together with his children Vanessa and Stéphane and the winemaker and king of the Baga grape, Luis Pato, he built the Quinta do Pôpa winery in honour of his father. In 2010 he handed it over to the capable hands of his children, who look after the family legacy with care and devotion.
