Weinbeschreibung

Citrus Scent & Almond Melt

Bright straw yellow, almost like dried lemongrass backlit. Clear and luminous in the glass, with no cloudiness—a sight that promises freshness and visually anticipates the first sip. No heavy sheen, but rather a fine, agile brilliance with a slightly greenish reflection.

The nose is immediately alert – lemon, lime zest, with a hint of passionfruit and mango. Tropical, yes, but never kitschy. A touch of white peach and a cool, almond-like bitterness in the background. The finest vanilla notes subtly emerge beneath – more like wood dust after a summer day in the carpentry workshop.

"Vibrant" describes it best: The wine dances on the tongue like a chilled citrus smoothie with grip. Crisp acidity, good body, nothing flat. The texture is like wet slate – slightly rough, cool, precise. The finish reveals almond, fine saltiness, and a hint of smoke – almost a crackling minerality.

A cuvée of seven indigenous grape varieties – not a grand stage for individuals, but a finely tuned chorus. The Douro Valley provides the stage: barren, rocky soils, cool Atlantic winds, and intense sun. The wine is not merely made; it is shaped – with sensitivity and respect for its origin.

Quinta do Pôpa

Family history to drink: Grandfather Pôpa's lifelong dream was to have his own winery in the Douro Valley. His descendants are making this dream come true.

The young Pôpa worked in the vineyards of the Douro Valley in the oldest protected wine-growing region in the world. The proud man was passionately convinced of the quality and uniqueness of the wines. Pôpa dreamed of owning his own winery. It was only after his death that this dream came true and in 2003 his son Zeca bought the first 9 hectares of vineyards in the Douro Valley: these included renowned but also new locations. Together with his children Vanessa and Stéphane and the winemaker and king of the Baga grape, Luis Pato, he built the Quinta do Pôpa winery in honour of his father. In 2010 he handed it over to the capable hands of his children, who look after the family legacy with care and devotion.
