Vintage Port 2017

Vintage Port
Vintage Port

Powerful blackberry with chocolatey nutmeg.
The Vintage Port has a carmine red color with amber reflections.
The nose reveals strong aromas of black fruits such as blackberries and cherries, accompanied by fine spicy notes such as nutmeg and black pepper. A hint of chocolate and subtle floral nuances elegantly round off the bouquet.
On the palate, the wine is powerful but wonderfully balanced. The intense fruity sweetness of black cherry and ripe berries is supported by a well-integrated acidity. Soft tannins give the port a silky mouthfeel and a long, elegant finish.
The grapes come from steep, terraced vineyards in the Douro Valley with slate soils that ensure optimal ripening conditions. The wine is traditionally aged in large wooden barrels, which enhances the aromatic complexity and gives the wine its exceptional depth.
Family history to drink: Grandfather Pôpa's lifelong dream was to have his own winery in the Douro Valley. His descendants are making this dream come true.
The young Pôpa worked in the vineyards of the Douro Valley in the oldest protected wine-growing region in the world. The proud man was passionately convinced of the quality and uniqueness of the wines. Pôpa dreamed of owning his own winery. It was only after his death that this dream came true and in 2003 his son Zeca bought the first 9 hectares of vineyards in the Douro Valley: these included renowned but also new locations. Together with his children Vanessa and Stéphane and the winemaker and king of the Baga grape, Luis Pato, he built the Quinta do Pôpa winery in honour of his father. In 2010 he handed it over to the capable hands of his children, who look after the family legacy with care and devotion.
