Vineyard Selection Petit Verdot 2022
Vineyard Selection Petit Verdot
Vineyard Selection Petit Verdot
Juicy blackberry with tobacco pepper.
In the glass, the wine stands like a muscular shadow: deep dark violet, almost inky, with dense "church windows" on the rim. No transparency, no hesitation – this is no delicate dancer, but a dark, weighty presence. And you can see that immediately.
Like a deep breath in the lumber storage after the rain. Blackberry, blackcurrant, cedarwood, and freshly sharpened pencil. Beneath it, black pepper flickers, cold ash, a hint of tobacco. Nothing loud – more like a quiet room full of dark energy. A scent like a conversation among men – calm, honest, intense.
Grippy on the palate – as if you had cedarwood between your teeth. Juicy, structured, with dark berry fruit that doesn't cling but pulls. The tannins? Robust, but not rough. The acidity brings tension like a tightrope. Long finish with an austere note. A wine with backbone and clear edges – it needs no makeup.
It comes from Los Chacayes, high up in the Uco Valley – where the nights are cold and the soil is pure stone. Hand-picked, small yields, 12 months in French oak. Not a smoothed-out global wine, but a characterful wine with a sense of place. As uncompromising as a firm handshake. You can taste where it comes from – and that there's nothing to hide here.
Casa de Uco is a winery where you can immediately tell: it is 100% about quality, coupled with a clear philosophy.
We were looking for a special family winery in Argentina's Mendoza wine region. We found it in the Uco Valley. And how: a designer winery, a dream hotel, regional cuisine, and outstanding wines. The young team around winemaker Gustavo Bauza and Alberto Antonini has a clear plan and an unshakeable philosophy. Time Magazine selected Casa de Uco as one of "The World's Greatest Places" in 2021.
