Pinot Noir loess 2023
Pinot Noir loess
Pinot Noir loess
Ripe forest fruits with velvety rose hips.
Deep garnet with a black core, the color appears clear and concentrated, not heavy but present in the glass. The reflections show precision, swirling reveals dense legs, a visually dense Gamay that tends towards structure rather than flimsiness.
The nose balances black berries like blackberry and blackcurrant with ripe plums, topped with cherry and cranberry as vibrant accents. Fine mineral graphite notes join in, along with a hint of forest floor and liquorice, underpinned with an astringency that is never dull, but always clearly focused.
In the mouth, the wine is velvety with a lively acidity structure and flavors of blackberry, cherry and a hint of rosehip.
The 2022 Pinot Noir from Weingut Peter Wagner was carefully and traditionally matured, with spontaneous fermentation and maturation in used wooden barrels for additional complexity.
The Peter Wagner Way: Elegant freshness versus lush sweetness. Dry and fully fermented development, long yeast storage. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Peter Wagner is a winner - young, focused, progressive. After studying in Geisenheim and gaining 5 years of experience as a cellar master at "the" Franz Keller from Kaiserstuhl, he took over his parents' business in Oberrotweil and started from zero to one hundred with the 2017 vintage. Peter Wagner scores points with his own style, which seems unusual for the Kaiserstuhl: he harvests his grapes relatively early in the year in order to counteract the Baden wine with its typical lush sweetness with a slim and elegant freshness. In addition, his wines are matured dry and fully fermented, stored on the yeast for a long time and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
