Crianza 2023
Crianza
Cabernet Sauvignon
Crianza
Deep red forest fruit with leathery earthiness.
In the glass, a deep ruby red with garnet accents. The core appears dense, while the rim remains clear and transparent enough to show movement and freshness. Fine streaks suggest extract without the wine appearing heavy or jammy.
On the nose, ripe red forest berries come first, along with cherry and a hint of blueberry. This is followed by leather and an earthy, almost mystical component, like damp forest floor after rain. Subtle, finely dosed roasted aromas from the barrel hold everything together.
On the palate, it is round and spicy, with clean fruit and fine tannins from the oak barrel. The acidity is supportive without being too edgy. The wine remains balanced, builds pressure in the mid-palate, and has a long, dry, and clear finish.
The Crianza comes from Ribera del Duero, from Dehesa de los Canónigos near Pesquera. The blend is dominated by Tinto Fino with a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon. Hand-picked, selected. Classically fermented, then 15 months in barriques, predominantly fine-grained, medium-toasted oak. This brings structure without overpowering the fruit.
Dehesa de los Canonigos is one of the great historical estates of the Ribera del Duero and one of the best Tempranillo producers – and all without any “brand stickers”.
Ribera del Duero - This region produces Spain's most expensive red wines, and it's teeming with names that command hundreds of euros per bottle – Pingus, Vega Sicilia, Emilio Moro, and many more.
These are the neighbors of Belen and Ivan, who are now running their Dehesa los Canonigos for the 5th generation. The name translates to "Pasture of the Canons" and refers to the canons of the cathedral in Valladolid and their possessions in the region.
The two siblings form a perfect team. Belen's domain is the wine cellar, while Ivan handles the management of the winery and the accompanying agricultural land. With great passion, the two siblings produce wines that can easily compete with their neighbors: they manage to reach the top at a fair price. In 2025, the winery was ranked number 1 among all wineries by the renowned magazine "Verema". Without purchased "brand labels".
