Merlot 2016
Merlot
Merlot
Dark cherry with berry mocha.
This wine presents itself in the glass in rich ruby red, with a seductive clarity and an elegant shimmer.
The nose is caressed by intense notes of black fruits, accompanied by subtle nuances of vanilla and chocolate.
On the palate, a harmonious interplay of ripe black berries, mocha and French oak unfolds, perfectly balanced with lively acidity.
The 2016 growing year was an exceptional one. Temperatures were hot but consistent, resulting in balanced and beautifully ripe fruit. September cooled to slow sugar development while the aromas and tannins continued to develop well. This vintage is now considered a textbook “Okanangan Vintage.” The result was a powerful, noble Merlot.
Painted Rock is featured in the best wine clubs in London and is still an insider tip in the rest of Europe. That won't be the case for much longer!
No matter which aspect of winemaking one picks out or which external factor one considers, John Skinner uncompromisingly implements his plan for the best possible wine quality with Painted Rock. No detail is overlooked. For example, the valuable soil of the existing peach orchard was not bulldozed away, but each tree stump was individually removed before vines were planted. And the Syrah was planted where a cool airflow through a small gorge creates the perfect microclimate. The list of examples is endless.
