Weinbeschreibung

Vanilla applesauce with creamy hay.

In the glass, a clear, bright golden yellow with a slight greenish tint is revealed. The color appears fresh, yet not thin. Gentle streaks suggest substance without opulence. Visually more precise than broad, typical for Tuniberg, clean and calm in appearance.

The Pinot Gris smells appealingly of ripe, cooked apple: fine aromas of hay, peach, hazelnut, honeydew melon, vanilla and oak wood blend together in the creaminess of light marzipan and blossom honey.

The noticeable use of wood comes through in a melting and spicy way. This fullness makes the wine almost corpulent and very present. In the finish, the moderate acidity is accompanied by a fine minerality.

The grapes for the Pinot Gris from Tuniberg were not destemmed after the harvest and were therefore pressed whole. They were then spontaneously fermented and stored in barriques for 12 months to mature. This Pinot Gris has potential for storage, but is ready to drink now and is incredibly fun. We are looking forward to this Pinot Gris and its mysterious development over the next 2-3 years.

Weingut Gebrüder Mathis

Baden pioneers: Aging Burgundy in French barriques was a novelty.

For the “Gebrüder Mathis”, winegrowing on the Tuniberg began two generations ago with a decision: the brothers Bernhard and Paul Mathis began to cultivate the storage areas of their parents' gypsum quarry as vineyards. The brothers quickly realized that their wines had not yet reached their full potential. They therefore decided to mature their Burgundy in French barriques - a first for Baden wine at the time. Inspired by the positive response to a wine that was not intended for sale, but only for their own use, the “Gebrüder Mathis” winery was founded in the 1970s.
