The winery

After completing his studies, the young Marco Caiaffa takes over his father's vineyards and converts everything to organic. His five siblings and millions of insects help him with his work.

After studying to become a winemaker, the young Marco Caiaffa has a vision. He wants to convert his father's vineyards to organic production and thus become a pioneer in his region. Until then, his father had sold his grapes to the local cooperative. Those days are over: Marco doesn't sell grapes, he sells his own aromatic wines. With his wines, he celebrates biodiversity like no other. For Marco, insects are the best indicator of biodiversity and successful organic viticulture. His labels are a tribute to them: fireflies, millipedes, dragonflies and many more... His five siblings support him in the vineyard and in the cellar. The whole Caiaffa family believes with Marco.

Organic viticulture from deep conviction.

“We take organic viticulture very seriously and insects are my best co-workers in the vineyard.” In order to express his conviction in more than just words, Marco even erects a monument to some of his insects in the vineyard and immortalizes them on his labels. Dragonflies, millipedes and others have already been honored. Insects are not everything, but they are often one of the best indicators of biodiversity. The Caiaffa winery has been working ecologically since it launched its first wines. There is a deep conviction that nature is in balance or can restore its balance itself, at least when it is managed correctly, for example without the use of chemical pesticides.

No expensive premiums.

Unlike many wineries in the region, such as those in Salento or Manduria, Marco Caiaffa does not buy expensive premiums so that he can put a specific name on his product. Marco's wines speak for themselves - even without purchased reputation.

The location

By bike from the winery to the beach.

The Caiaffa winery is located in Cerignola in Apulia. The vineyards are located on the edge of the well-known plain, Tavoliere delle Puglie. The soil is rich in lime, the sun is hot, and there is no rainfall. But there is actually enough water: the vineyards are less than 4 km from the beach. On this unique terrain, which was once the seabed, Marco's organic wines grow in the constant Apulian wind and literally soak up the sun of southern Italy.
