Weinbeschreibung

Naturally cloudy apple with herb lemon.

The glass reveals a warm amber with copper reflections, like liquid autumn on slate. Naturally cloudy and vibrant, not a prim and polished Riesling, but one with a patina.

The nose opens with quince jelly, cloudy apple juice, and dried lemon peel. Behind these, beeswax, honeycomb, and a hint of peat shimmer through. The slate spice of the Mosel flows coolly through the aromatic profile. Ginger and herbs give the scent an edgy, almost autumnal depth.

On the palate, it is juicy and structured at the same time. The mash provides fine tannins that run across the tongue like a chalky grip. Orchard fruit, quince, and citrus zest meet a rounded acidity. The finish is salty, slightly piquant, and dry-tart.

This Riesling was allowed to remain on the skins for about three weeks. A bold move for the Mosel. The skins lend structure, spice, and that tart backbone. Minimally sulfured, naturally bottled. An experimental orange wine approach that clearly retains the cool slate character of the Riesling.

Heymann-Löwenstein

Masterful Mosel Rieslings, characterized by tradition, terroir and an unmistakable winemaker philosophy

The Heymann-Löwenstein winery, founded in 1980 by Reinhard Löwenstein and Cornelia Heymann-Löwenstein in Winningen, is a pioneer in the Moselle region. The roots of winegrowing in the Löwenstein family go back to the 16th century. Today the winery covers around 15 hectares, almost entirely planted with Riesling vines. The wines are produced on slate soils that are over 400 million years old and reflect the diversity of these unique terroirs. Reinhard Löwenstein, often referred to as the "slate whisperer", attaches great importance to the authenticity of his wines. Spontaneous fermentation, long maceration and careful vinification in large wooden barrels characterize the wines, which are known for their complexity and depth.
