Grains de Confidence Blanc 2020
Grains de Confidence Blanc
Grains de Confidence Blanc
Fresh apricot with elegant hazelnut.
In the glass, the wine presents a luminous, golden-yellow hue with delicate reflections of straw and white gold. The high viscosity at the rim already hints at structure and substance – a Chardonnay with depth and sophistication.
On the nose, young apricot notes meet white flowers, accompanied by delicate woody undertones. Beneath lies a cool, almost salty minerality, reminiscent of wet stone. The aromatics remain precise, never obtrusive – elegant and complex at the same time.
On the palate, the wine presents with an opulent texture and creamy richness. Vibrating acidity lends tension, while nuances of stone fruit, citrus zest, and toasted hazelnut provide depth. The finish is long, finely spicy, and crystal-clear in structure. Compared to older vintages, the acidity is still somewhat more prominent in this younger variant.
Strict yield reduction (25 hl/ha), hand harvesting, and meticulous work in the cellar define this wine. 18 months of aging in oak barrels with regular batonnage lend it substance and depth. The combination of a cool microclimate and clay-gravel soils brings clarity and balance. It marries Burgundian complexity with Atlantic freshness – a Chardonnay that does not strive to be Chablis or Meursault, but confidently forges its own French-cool path. Uncompromisingly handcrafted, stylistically independent.
A grain of Bordeaux: Biodynamic terroir wines from the most legendary estuary.
The wine world of the Bordeaux region is shaped by the rivers Garonne and Dordogne. These flow together in the gigantic Gironde estuary, which also gives the department, i.e. the federal state, its name. The wine game of Bordeaux wines distinguishes between right and left of the estuary. The proximity to the Gironde is always relevant. This proximity is also offered by the neighboring region of Charente Maritime and especially the small town of Saint-Bonnet-sur-Gironde. This is where Julien Bonneau, a respected Bordeaux winemaker from Château Haut Grelot in Blayais, and Alexandre Lavigne, a talented chef from Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, joined forces. On the pebble-rich soil along the Gironde estuary, they cultivate 10 hectares of vineyards using organic and biodynamic methods. Through a careful selection of traditional grape varieties and a deep respect for the terroir, Grains d'Estuaire produces gastronomic wines of exceptional quality and expressiveness that capture the essence of Charente-Maritime and its legendary neighborhood, at prices that Bordeaux fans can only dream of.
