The Battenfeld Spanier Hohen-Sülzen Riesling presents itself in the glass with a clear, radiant, light golden color. The finest greenish reflections underline its freshness and liveliness. The wine shows a beautiful viscosity, which manifests itself in slow, even stained glass windows on the edge of the glass.
The nose reveals a complex bouquet of mineral notes, ripe citrus fruits such as lemon and lime, accompanied by a hint of apple and peach. Finely nuanced hints of tropical fruits such as pineapple and mango give the wine an exotic depth.
On the palate, the Riesling from Battenfeld Spanier is juicy and lively. The distinctive acid structure ensures freshness and balance. Aromas of citrus fruits and green apples are accompanied by a mineral note that provides elegant complexity. The finish is long-lasting and harmonious.

Where previously only mass-produced wines were produced, this biodynamic pioneer focused on individual vineyards.
The VdP winery Battenfeld-Spanier was founded in 1991 by Hans Oliver Spanier and has quickly become one of the most respected wineries in Rheinhessen. From the very beginning, HO Spanier decided against the Rheinhessen way of the time: mass production. As a pioneer, he recalled what had almost been forgotten: the individual vineyards, the love of the terroir, the slowness.
With the game-changing strategy of terroir wines in its luggage, HO Spanier was able to secure the best individual vineyards for a small sum in the 1990s. In the years that followed, the terroir renaissance got rolling and led the winery to great success.
A second decisive factor for success is the early decision to choose the most ecologically sensible way of growing wine: biodynamic. 30 years ahead of time, Spanier relied on natural wine, on controlled inactivity. To let the terroir shine so brightly in natural wine requires a great deal of expertise, precision and a strong intuition. HO Spanier proves in all qualities that his wines are one thing: unmistakably Rheinhessen.
