Saint Amour Le Carjot 2019
Saint Amour Le Carjot
Saint Amour Le Carjot
Dark blackberry with spicy coffee.
Bright, clear ruby red with cherry-red reflections, transparent and vibrant in the glass. The color appears more delicate than dense, yet shows depth. Swirling reveals calm streaks, indicating juicy fruit, moderate extract, and a precise, not overladen style.
The nose reveals red cherries, raspberries, and strawberries, complemented by violets and a cool, granitic note. Subtle herbal spice and a hint of pepper provide depth without overshadowing the clear fruit and freshness, typical of Saint-Amour.
On the palate, the wine is juicy and precise, supported by red fruit and lively acidity. The tannins are fine and powdery, providing grip without pressure. The finish remains dry, clear, and animating, with quiet length and a clean structure.
Le Carjot comes from a top single vineyard site within the Saint-Amour appellation with granite soils and old Gamay vines. Manual harvest, traditional maceration, and aging primarily in concrete preserve freshness and terroir. The style embodies precision, drinkability, and unadulterated Beaujolais typicity with a clear signature.
The new generation in traditional Beaujolais
Winegrowing seems to have had a home in Saint Amour since time immemorial. Not only is the dreamy village part of Burgundy, but also part of Beaujolais. A few decades ago, the slightly sparkling wine from Beaujolais had a bad reputation, but since the new generation has come along, it is clear that those days are over.
Grégory Barbet and his sisters took over the reins of the winery in 2013 and do not produce on a mass scale. Their goal: to arouse emotions through tangible terroir. Easy to say, but that is precisely why real professionals are needed at work, such as the likeable Grégory Barbet. He has his winery on the ridge near the church of Saint Amour. The building itself dates back to 1600 and takes its name from the small white flower that can be found here (German: moss eye).
