Saint Amour 2023
Saint Amour
Saint Amour
Peppery cherry with juicy rock.
In the glass, Saint-Amour typically presents a clear, luminous ruby red with a slight violet tinge. The color appears fresh and transparent, without being thin, more like cleanly polished glass. An impression of youth, precision, and approachable elegance characterizes the overall picture.
At first you smell the rock: pebbles and minerals. Slowly a clear red fruit emerges: dark cherry with a strong spiciness like white pepper.
Saint Amour is very juicy in the mouth. The tannins provide the structure and ensure a particularly beautiful harmony. And that is exactly where the flow of drinking begins, which means you can really enjoy this wine.
Saint-Amour originates from the northernmost Cru of Beaujolais, characterized by granite and slate soils. Gamay is traditionally fermented, often with partial carbonic maceration. Aging usually takes place in stainless steel or used wood to clearly preserve the fruit, freshness, and origin.
The new generation in traditional Beaujolais
Winegrowing seems to have had a home in Saint Amour since time immemorial. Not only is the dreamy village part of Burgundy, but also part of Beaujolais. A few decades ago, the slightly sparkling wine from Beaujolais had a bad reputation, but since the new generation has come along, it is clear that those days are over.
Grégory Barbet and his sisters took over the reins of the winery in 2013 and do not produce on a mass scale. Their goal: to arouse emotions through tangible terroir. Easy to say, but that is precisely why real professionals are needed at work, such as the likeable Grégory Barbet. He has his winery on the ridge near the church of Saint Amour. The building itself dates back to 1600 and takes its name from the small white flower that can be found here (German: moss eye).
