Dark, muted garnet red fills the glass with solid substance and slight transparency at the rim, the depth reveals ripe cherry at the core and restrained ruby reflections, overall fresh in expression yet serious with clear color without garish tones.
The nose opens with ripe cherries, subtle earthy notes, and a grainy fruit structure, underpinned by delicate juniper berries and subtle vanilla and wood aromas from the barrique, accompanied by earthy nuances that lend tension and focus to the bouquet.
The Pinot also impresses on the palate with its elegant and delicate style, moderate tannins and subtle acidity. This makes the wine appear very light and yet ripe.
With the new grape variety, Aaron Schwegler has demonstrated another talent: understanding Pinot Noir. This puts him very high up on the Pinot career ladder.
