Amarone Conte Mariano DOCG 2018
Amarone Conte Mariano DOCG
Corvinone
Rondinella
Amarone Conte Mariano DOCG
Complex dried fruit with fruity raisins.
The Amarone from Corte San Benedetto presents itself in intense garnet red.
The lush nose brings ethereal fragrance and strong fruit. Prunes, black cherries, a bouquet of dried flowers and a hint of sweet spices. Earthy honey notes also combine with blackberry, raisin and liquorice.
Velvety soft. Absolutely complex: structured and yet clearly soft, flanked by velvety tannins. A hint of vanilla and tobacco extends the very long and impressive finish.
The vines for the Amarone are 30 years old. After a very complex manual selection in the vineyard, the grapes are dried in small wooden boxes so that the water content decreases and the sugar content increases. At the end of December, the grapes are then pressed and fermentation begins. The wine then rests in large wooden barrels for 60 months.
Where scientists once sat in the cellar by candlelight, award-winning Valpolicella wines from the Lavarini family now mature.
The land has been owned by the Lavarini family since the end of the 19th century. Originally, however, the land was only intended for growing fruit and wine for personal consumption. When demand for Valpolicella wines skyrocketed after the Second World War, Angelo Lavarini decided to professionalize winemaking, and successfully so. Since then, outstanding wines have been produced in the Valpolicella Classico and Valpantena. Since 2004, these wines have won over 50 awards. A judgment that speaks for itself.
Angelo Lavarini also recognized his passion for cherries and made an entire cherry field near Marano available for scientific study of pests. It was to become a place where scientists, teachers and students regularly came and went. After work, they sat in the cellar by candlelight (there was no electricity in the vineyards) to enjoy the magical atmosphere that enchanted the cellar room through the wine, a gift from the grapes.
