Smoky Salted Almonds
In the glass, the Chardonnay presents itself in a clear, medium straw yellow with a delicate golden shimmer – not loud, but self-assured. The viscosity appears calm and smooth, the edges bright and precise. No showmanship, but pure elegance with understatement.
The nose is dominated by a salty, flinty smokiness – almost like wet stone after a summer rain. Behind this, delicate notes of green apple, brioche, and a hint of vanilla emerge. This is no tropical fruit basket, but rather a barren rock with butter and bite.
In the mouth, it shows character: crisp acidity like a well-tailored jacket, yet creamy at its core – with richness but without heaviness. Yellow apple fruit, almond biscuit, a hint of citrus, and a salty note that lingers long. Almost chalky in the finish, very precise.
The wine comes from volcanic steep slopes on the Kaiserstuhl, grown on lime-rich loess-loam with lava rock underneath. Spontaneously fermented, partly aged in large wooden barrels, it is a Baden homage to Burgundy – with its own character, not a copy.
