The cradle of Riesling.
The Goldatzel family winery is located in Johannisberg in the Rheingau. For hundreds of years, wines have been produced here that have significantly shaped the image of German Riesling.

Family winery in a historic wine town.
It is no exaggeration to call Johannisberg in the Rheingau the cradle of Riesling. For several hundred years, wines have been produced here that have significantly shaped the image of German Riesling - nationally and internationally. The term "Spätlese" was coined here at the end of the 17th century, and we now know it as a quality level for all German wines. With their 12-hectare Goldatzel winery, the Groß family runs one of the venerable and traditional Riesling hotspots. In order to produce particularly intense and multifaceted Rieslings, Johannes Groß focuses on quartzite-rich vineyards.
Respect for nature.
It is particularly important to Goldatzel that grapes, must and wine are handled with the greatest possible care. On the one hand, so that nothing is lost during the winemaking process and the finished wine can later tell the story of its vintage, its origin and the grape variety with every facet. On the other hand, because sheer respect for the unpredictability of nature, for the old vines and for the winemaking profession means that Goldatzel cannot do anything else.
It couldn't be more honest.
We pick grapes by hand and often so selectively that vineyards are picked several times during the harvest. In the cellar, the grapes then fall into the press without any further mechanical stress and are pressed just as gently and time-consumingly. After allowing the must to settle for a short time, we wait with excitement for the fermentation to begin. We do not control the fermentation process and it can take between a few weeks and several months. This depends on the style we are aiming for. The only thing that is important to us is not to distort the character of each vintage as much as possible.
“My father was and is the style-defining influence for our wines, even though I now take over the work in the cellar and have a say in everything. But fortunately we have a common vision - the same goal.” Johannes Groß
