wine description

Dark cherries, delicate smokiness and spicy oak notes.

The Pinot Noir Kalkbödele presents itself in a deep ruby red with delicate garnet reflections, which indicates a ripe and concentrated grape quality.

On the nose, the wine unfolds elegant notes of juicy sour cherries, accompanied by a hint of smoke and a subtle dark earthy nuance.

On the palate, there is a balanced mouthfeel with crisp acidity and well-integrated tannins. The taste is characterized by fine spicy elements, dark cherries and subtle roasted aromas.

The Pinot Noir Kalkbödele was developed with dedication and matured for 15 months in barriques. This gives it exquisite barrel integration and a fresh acidity.

Wineyard Gebrüder Mathis

Baden pioneers: Aging Burgundy in French barriques was a novelty.

For the “Gebrüder Mathis”, winegrowing on the Tuniberg began two generations ago with a decision: the brothers Bernhard and Paul Mathis began to cultivate the storage areas of their parents' gypsum quarry as vineyards. The brothers quickly realized that their wines had not yet reached their full potential. They therefore decided to mature their Burgundy in French barriques - a first for Baden wine at the time. Inspired by the positive response to a wine that was not intended for sale, but only for their own use, the “Gebrüder Mathis” winery was founded in the 1970s.
