Grauburgunder Kalkbödele 2023

Grauburgunder Kalkbödele
Grauburgunder Kalkbödele

Freshly torn lemon peel with herbaceous apple.
The Grauburgunder Kalkbödele shines in a bright and fresh platinum yellow.
Ripe apple is played on the nose, surrounded by freshly torn lemon peel, ginger and a touch of vanilla. There is also an earthy hint of nutmeg.
The aromas of grapefruit peel, gooseberry, apricot, passion fruit, rhubarb and fragrant flowers complement the fruity impressions of the nose. This fruit basket gives the Pinot Gris a full mouthfeel without making it seem heavy - this is where the mild acidity comes into play as a counteracting factor. The grand finale is a wonderfully light, herbal and creamy finish with a hint of vanilla.
The vines grow on very calcareous soil, which takes the edge off the acidity and makes it more pleasant and lively. The Grauburgunder Kalkbödele was 100% harvested by hand and, after careful treatment, fermented and matured in stainless steel tanks.
Baden pioneers: Aging Burgundy in French barriques was a novelty.
For the “Gebrüder Mathis”, winegrowing on the Tuniberg began two generations ago with a decision: the brothers Bernhard and Paul Mathis began to cultivate the storage areas of their parents' gypsum quarry as vineyards. The brothers quickly realized that their wines had not yet reached their full potential. They therefore decided to mature their Burgundy in French barriques - a first for Baden wine at the time. Inspired by the positive response to a wine that was not intended for sale, but only for their own use, the “Gebrüder Mathis” winery was founded in the 1970s.
