Spätburgunder Henkenberg 2022
Spätburgunder Henkenberg
Spätburgunder Henkenberg
Juicy flint with noble herbal notes.
In a bright cherry red that allows the light to shimmer through, this Pinot Noir dances through the glass.
Juicy sour cherry and noble herbs with mineral flint dominate on the nose, underlaid by subtle, slightly smoky wood notes and delicate wild berry spice, altogether a bouquet with clear, cool fruit and a fine herbal touch that does not seem overdone.
On the palate, the cool elegance of the Pinot Noir becomes evident with juicy acidity, medium-bodied tannin structure, fine roasted aromas, and notes of pine needles. Simply elegant, silky, yet youthful.
The grapes come from the renowned Henkenberg vineyard on the Kaiserstuhl, growing on volcanic soil that imparts freshness and minerality to the Pinot Noir. 18 months of barrique aging and extended lees contact provide texture and depth. Unfiltered bottling preserves the fine precision of this dry, fully fermented wine.
The Peter Wagner Way: Elegant freshness versus lush sweetness. Dry and fully fermented development, long yeast storage. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Peter Wagner is a winner - young, focused, progressive. After studying in Geisenheim and gaining 5 years of experience as a cellar master at "the" Franz Keller from Kaiserstuhl, he took over his parents' business in Oberrotweil and started from zero to one hundred with the 2017 vintage. Peter Wagner scores points with his own style, which seems unusual for the Kaiserstuhl: he harvests his grapes relatively early in the year in order to counteract the Baden wine with its typical lush sweetness with a slim and elegant freshness. In addition, his wines are matured dry and fully fermented, stored on the yeast for a long time and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
