Müller-Thurgau Loess 2023
Müller-Thurgau Loess
Müller-Thurgau Loess
Precise pear with nutty herbs.
In the glass, a bright straw yellow with greenish reflections appears, clear and clean like a freshly polished window pane in the morning. The fine streaks run smoothly, nothing rushes, everything seems light-footed and controlled, more silk than satin.
The nose is not loud, but rather subtle. Green apple, pear, and a splash of lemon, with gooseberry, fresh herbs, and that delicate hint of tomato leaf. Underneath, a touch of grape and a trace of hazelnut.
On the palate, it is lean, cool, and precise. The acidity runs through like a clean line, medium-bodied, not sharp. Apple and citrus remain present, complemented by a delicate creaminess that rounds everything off. It drinks smoothly, almost unobtrusively, but consistently.
Müller-Thurgau from loess soil, vinified dry, without loud cellar tricks. The focus is on freshness, clarity, and drinkability. No aromatic makeup, just honest fruit and structure. The conscious restraint here is particularly special. A wine that doesn't push itself, but lingers.
The Peter Wagner Way: Elegant freshness versus lush sweetness. Dry and fully fermented development, long yeast storage. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Peter Wagner is a winner - young, focused, progressive. After studying in Geisenheim and gaining 5 years of experience as a cellar master at "the" Franz Keller from Kaiserstuhl, he took over his parents' business in Oberrotweil and started from zero to one hundred with the 2017 vintage. Peter Wagner scores points with his own style, which seems unusual for the Kaiserstuhl: he harvests his grapes relatively early in the year in order to counteract the Baden wine with its typical lush sweetness with a slim and elegant freshness. In addition, his wines are matured dry and fully fermented, stored on the yeast for a long time and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
