Deep, rich ruby red with clear violet reflections in the glass, the color appears concentrated and without cloudiness, showing dense, even legs when swirled. The appearance promises ripeness and substance, more serious than flamboyant, a typical Merlot presentation with depth.
The fragrant wine shows the potential for great red wines in Germany. Bitter almonds, wild berries and black cherries set the tone. Delicate nuances of vanilla round off the aromatic experience.
On the palate, the Merlot remains fragrant and slightly feminine. It brings with it a rounded warmth that is simply delicious in the interplay of aromas. Neither tannin nor acidity challenge the drinker to move away from the soft aromas.
This sustainably grown Merlot from Wallhausen/Nahe was aged for 16 months in barriques and bottled unfiltered, which gives it structure and depth. The successful balance between fruit and wood shows why this Merlot stands as a statement of German red winemaking.
