Weinbeschreibung

Juicy peach with floral flint.

A crystal clear, brilliant golden yellow Riesling that shines in the glass. The color reveals its maturity and the care taken in growing it. Fine, long-lasting tears in the glass indicate a full-bodied wine.

Intense mineral notes unfold on the nose, accompanied by honey, peach and citrus fruits. Fine nuances of flint and floral accents such as honeysuckle and acacia complete the complex bouquet.

On the palate, the wine is dry and harmonious with a lively acidity. Aromas of green apple, lemon and tropical fruits are accompanied by a salty minerality that promises a long and elegant finish.

The grapes come from organic farming in the best locations in Rheinhessen. Hand-picking and careful processing in the cellar ensure the highest quality. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with natural yeasts, and aging on the fine yeast gives the wine depth and complexity.

Weingut Battenfeld-Spanier

Where previously only mass-produced wines were produced, this biodynamic pioneer focused on individual vineyards.

The VdP winery Battenfeld-Spanier was founded in 1991 by Hans Oliver Spanier and has quickly become one of the most respected wineries in Rheinhessen. From the very beginning, HO Spanier decided against the Rheinhessen way of the time: mass production. As a pioneer, he recalled what had almost been forgotten: the individual vineyards, the love of the terroir, the slowness.
With the game-changing strategy of terroir wines in its luggage, HO Spanier was able to secure the best individual vineyards for a small sum in the 1990s. In the years that followed, the terroir renaissance got rolling and led the winery to great success.
A second decisive factor for success is the early decision to choose the most ecologically sensible way of growing wine: biodynamic. 30 years ahead of time, Spanier relied on natural wine, on controlled inactivity. To let the terroir shine so brightly in natural wine requires a great deal of expertise, precision and a strong intuition. HO Spanier proves in all qualities that his wines are one thing: unmistakably Rheinhessen.
