wine description

Juicy plum with fine cedar wood.

The Quinta do Pôpa Miradouro is a deep, violet ruby red with dark reflections. The dense color signals intensity and maturity, while the clear, elegant streaks indicate a rich structure and complexity.

Notes of blackberries, black cherries and cherries unfold on the nose, accompanied by smoky and earthy accents such as leather. Fine nuances of vanilla, cinnamon and liquorice complement the bouquet, which is rounded off by floral tones of violets.

On the palate, the juiciest plum and dark berry are confirmed, paired with fine cedar wood. The acidity is well integrated, the tannin is velvety.

This wine is made from the best traditional grape varieties of the Douro Valley, which grow on steep slate terraces. The aging in oak barrels gives it depth and elegance, while the manual work in the vineyards underlines its authenticity and terroir-influenced quality. It is a Vioneers original and was developed exclusively by and for Vioneers and represents the perfect Douro red wine for us. Here in the exclusive magnum bottle.

Quinta do Pôpa

Family history to drink: Grandfather Pôpa's lifelong dream was to have his own winery in the Douro Valley. His descendants are making this dream come true.

The young Pôpa worked in the vineyards of the Douro Valley in the oldest protected wine-growing region in the world. The proud man was passionately convinced of the quality and uniqueness of the wines. Pôpa dreamed of owning his own winery. It was only after his death that this dream came true and in 2003 his son Zeca bought the first 9 hectares of vineyards in the Douro Valley: these included renowned but also new locations. Together with his children Vanessa and Stéphane and the winemaker and king of the Baga grape, Luis Pato, he built the Quinta do Pôpa winery in honour of his father. In 2010 he handed it over to the capable hands of his children, who look after the family legacy with care and devotion.
