Weinbeschreibung

Toast, violets & dark fruit

In the glass, the wine presents itself in a dark, almost opaque garnet red with ruby reflections – like velvety curtains in a theatre hall, just before the lights dim. Dense rim, rich colour concentration – a first hint of depth, ripeness, and concentration.

The nose plays in the premier league: blackcurrant, blackberry compote, sour cherry, underlaid with violets, cigar box, cedarwood and a pinch of black pepper. Interspersed with a warm note of toast and damp forest floor – like a walk in the shade of old chestnut trees.

Powerful yet supple in the mouth – like a custom-made suit of heavy fabric. The tannins are fine-meshed, like oiled leather, the acidity has grip but no bite. Black fruit, a hint of smoke, bread crust, and conifer wood blend harmoniously. Long, minerally underpinned finish.

This Gran Reserva was not simply aged – it was cultivated. 100% Tempranillo, from old vines on chalky soils, matured in French and American oak barriques. The long barrel and bottle aging provides depth without old-age fatigue – a wine with character and history in the glass.

Dehesa de los Canónigos

Dehesa de los Canonigos is one of the great historical estates of the Ribera del Duero and one of the best Tempranillo producers – and all without any “brand stickers”.

Ribera del Duero - This region produces Spain's most expensive red wines, and it's teeming with names that command hundreds of euros per bottle – Pingus, Vega Sicilia, Emilio Moro, and many more. These are the neighbors of Belen and Ivan, who are now running their Dehesa los Canonigos for the 5th generation. The name translates to "Pasture of the Canons" and refers to the canons of the cathedral in Valladolid and their possessions in the region.
The two siblings form a perfect team. Belen's domain is the wine cellar, while Ivan handles the management of the winery and the accompanying agricultural land. With great passion, the two siblings produce wines that can easily compete with their neighbors: they manage to reach the top at a fair price. In 2025, the winery was ranked number 1 among all wineries by the renowned magazine "Verema". Without purchased "brand labels".
