Gebrüder Mathis
The new manuscript of Severin and Sabeth.
The young winemaking couple Severin and Sabeth have given the wines of the formerly classic Burgundy winery Gebrüder Mathis a new signature: They have become much more delicate, with a particular emphasis on fruitiness. They are also close to nature, without additives and spontaneously fermented - each plot is vinified individually, thus highlighting each location of the Tuniberg individually.

For the “Gebrüder Mathis”, winegrowing on the Tuniberg began two generations ago with a decision: the brothers Bernhard and Paul Mathis began to cultivate the storage areas of their parents' gypsum quarry as vineyards. The brothers quickly realized that their wines had not yet reached their full potential. They therefore decided to mature their Burgundy in French barriques - a first for Baden wine at the time. Inspired by the positive response to a wine that was not intended for sale, but only for their own use, the “Gebrüder Mathis” winery was founded in the 1970s.

In 2020, a new chapter began for the “Gebrüder Mathis” winery, when Sonja's son Severin took over the helm with the 2020 harvest: As a dynamic young winemaking couple, Severin and his partner Sabeth developed a new vision: The two are now driving the conversion of the formerly classic Burgundy business into an organic business for the second year. In addition to avoiding chemical additives, the focus on soil quality and biodiversity in the vineyard is particularly important.
