Cascina Galarin
Old cellar, fresh ideas – Piedmont's insider tip.
Wine has been a way of life here since 1781: The Carosso family, with organic craftsmanship and great passion, produces wines of distinct character that authentically reflect Piedmont in the glass. A traditional family winery, a true winemaker discovery – authentic, sustainable, and full of history.
Serving the Terroir since 1781 – Wine with Heart, Rooster, and Hand
Imagine entering a wine cellar whose foundation was laid over 200 years ago. Above the heavy wooden door, a carved rooster proudly displays itself – the heraldic animal of the Carosso family, which gave the winery Cascina Galarin its name. Wine has actually been growing here in Castagnole delle Lanze since 1781, but it wasn't until Giuseppe Carosso joined the business in the late 1980s that a new era began: He bottled under his own name for the first time and radically shifted the philosophy to quality and terroir. Today, Giuseppe and his sons Marco and Giovanni work hand in hand. On only about seven hectares of vineyards, distinctive organic wines are produced here. The oldest Barbera vines are almost 90 years old – a living heritage that the Carossos cultivate with dedication. Their passion is dedicated to the classic varieties of Piedmont: Barbera, Nebbiolo, Arneis, Moscato... Even their own Barolo from Monforte d'Alba is now part of their portfolio. Whether it's a fruity-sparkling Moscato d'Asti, a mineral-clear Arneis, a profound Barbera, or an elegant Barolo – the wines of Cascina Galarin bring the diversity of Piedmont into the glass, honest and unadulterated. It's no wonder that this small family winery is considered a real insider tip among connoisseurs. In harmony with nature
In the vineyard, the family works with nature, not against it. For several years, Cascina Galarin has been organic-certified and consistently refrains from using herbicides or synthetic pesticides. Wildflowers are allowed to bloom between the vines: green cover with diverse herbs keeps the soil healthy and promotes an intact ecosystem. Instead of relying on chemicals, the Carossos family trusts in artisanal care, patience, and the microclimate of their hillside locations. You can taste it in the grapes – pure nature, from the vineyard to the glass.
No tricks, just grapes
Cascina Galarin stands for honest wines without frills. Nothing goes into the bottle that doesn't come from the vineyard or the cellar. The family relies on first-class grapes and traditional methods so that each grape variety can show its unadulterated character. Their best parcel, Vigna Roriasso, consists of 80 to 90-year-old Barbera vines – a treasure that is carefully nurtured because it demonstrates how great this variety can be. Cellar tricks? None. Instead of technical gimmicks, the motto is: selective harvesting, plenty of rest, and as little intervention as possible. Even with sulfur, the family is minimalist – enough for stability, but as little as possible so as not to alter the wine. The result is authentic wines that deliver on the promise of their origin.
Rooted in the community
Despite its international outlook, Cascina Galarin remains firmly rooted in the region. The Carosso family welcomes visitors like friends – personally, warmly, and, of course, with a good glass of wine. You can also stay overnight at their farm and experience Piemontese wine country life up close. The family is also involved in winemaking associations such as FIVI, the Federation of Independent Winegrowers of Italy. Whether at local wine festivals, tastings at the farm, or simply in daily interactions – wine here is understood as a social force that brings people together. This down-to-earthness and hospitality make the winery all the more endearing.
